It’s February! Let’s talk about perfecting that pout before we start puckering up!
Gone are the days of one dermal filler option to satisfy the needs of every set of lips. These days, your healthcare professional has a wealth of options in fillers and injectables, which combined with expertise and an artistic eye, can yield individualized results as subtle or dramatic as desired.
Here is a quick rundown of the types of injectables and fillers used at Purely Aesthetics and how they may be used to achieve your version of a perfect pout.
Botox
Botox is probably not the first injectable you think of when it comes to non-surgical lip augmentation, however its application extends far beyond its traditional use for crows’ feet and the “elevens” in-between the eyebrows.
Botox gives slight added fullness to the lips, softens vertical lip lines, and relaxes the muscles (depressor angulaie oris) that pull down the corners of the mouth. The results? A more youthful looking appearance overall.
Juvederm Volbella
This hyaluronic acid filler, like Botox, can help improve the appearance of vertical lip lines. While Volbella beautifully fills in the lines having no effect on the function of the perioral muscles (the circular strand of muscles that allow for pursing or puckering of the lips), Botox temporarily limits the function of these muscles making sipping from a straw, for example, a difficult or impossible task. This limitation is usually transient – lasting a few weeks.
Volbella also softens and smoothens the lips themselves without adding significant volume. It is a subtle smoothing that gives the lips a more youthful appearance.
Juvederm Vollure
Those who are seeking a little added fullness or correction of asymmetry while still maintaining their natural look might be good candidates for Vollure, a slightly more viscous hyaluronic acid. Also manufactured by Allergan and falling under the “Juvederm” brand name, Vollure falls in between Voluma and Volbella when it comes to viscosity and spreadability (Voluma being the thickest, strongest gel – ideal for deep injection into the cheek area for example, and Volbella being the thinnest, most spreadable gel, commonly used for lip lines or the delicate area under the eyes).
Juvederm Ultra
Finally, those who want optimal plumping, or those whose lips are naturally full and may be looking to replace lost volume, may be ideal candidates for Juvederm Ultra, the hyaluronic acid that has been plumping lips for years with beautiful results.
Whether looking to achieve a subtle or more dramatic result from your non-surgical lip augmentation, your medical professional may choose one or a combination of the above treatment options to customize your perfect lip look. Of course, the final outcome should always be natural looking without the all too often noted telltale signs of treatment.
